A dental examination is much more comprehensive than most people are aware of. During your exam we do not only check the teeth but also the gums, tongue, lips, cheeks, tonsils, jaw joints and head/neck for any potential problems. We may also need to take X-rays to look for tooth decay and assess your bone levels to make sure you do not have any gum disease.
The reason we check the rest of the mouth and head/neck is to make sure there are no serious problems such as oral cancers.
